An Introduction to Sculptra and its Benefits
Sculptra is a new addition to the selection of treatments we offer here at the clinic, so now is the perfect opportunity to introduce you to it.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a biostimulatory injectable dermal filler treatment which is designed to boost natural collagen levels, restore a youthful glow, and improve skin quality. Sculptra has a gel-like quality and is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid, which has the ability to encourage your skin's cells to create additional collagen.
Research shows that by the age of 40, we have up to 20% less natural collagen in our skin. Collagen helps to maintain the structure and shape of the skin, which is why it plays such an important role in resisting signs of ageing such as sagging, lines and wrinkles.
What Can Sculptra Treat?
Sculptra is a versatile injectable treatment that can be used in a number of different treatment areas. When injected into the cheeks, it can help to tighten the skin across the jawline for a firmer, more sculpted appearance. It can also be used to soften the appearance of smile and marionette lines and minimise the appearance of facial folds.
As Sculptra is adept at minimising the appearance of lines and wrinkles, it can help to smooth many other areas of the body, too, including the hips, chest, elbows, and buttocks. However, it is not recommended for use on the lips or the delicate skin around the eyes.
What Can I Expect From Sculptra Treatment?
It is important to visit a trusted and experienced practitioner for Sculptra treatment, as this will ensure that your treatment schedule is properly aligned with your skin goals. Generally, most patients will obtain their ideal outcomes after two to three Sculptra treatment sessions, which should be administered over the course of several months. Typically, individual sessions should be completed at least three weeks apart.
During your initial treatment consultation, we will seek to understand your ideal outcomes and take your medical history to determine your suitability for Sculptra treatment. If we determine that it is the best treatment option for you, during your first session, we will carefully map out the optimal injection sites and thoroughly cleanse the area before administering the treatment. To minimise discomfort, a topical anaesthetic can be applied.
Sculptra is a minimally invasive treatment, so you should be able to get on with your day as normal after treatment sessions. You will also be provided with clear aftercare instructions to ensure optimal outcomes.
When Will I See Results?
Most patients report seeing visible results after four weeks, which continue to improve over the course of several months as the collagen production process is stimulated. To ensure you obtain the best outcomes, it is recommended to gently massage the treatment area for the first five days following your treatment session. You should ideally aim to massage the area for five minutes, five times per day.
As with any injectable treatment, you may experience some minor side effects, however they should last no more than a few days. The most common side effects include swelling and bruising, as well as minor discomfort.
How Long Do Results Last?
Sculptra has been the subject of extensive research, which found that 94% of trial participants who had their cheek region treated experienced visible improvement in their skin for up to 24 months. 95% of participants reported improved skin glow for up to 24 months, and 88% experienced improved tightness for the same duration of time after treatment.
